Eight Wednesdays, 7-9pm, starting November 9 (Complete dates below.) At North Star in Sunderland (45 Amherst Road, Sunderland) Price: $160 Pre-requisite: At least one session of an Advanced Zen of Improv class. A fast paced, get-your-hands-dirty introduction to the most widely performed longform structure of all time. We'll dive into openers, scene beats, group games, and controlled chaos, then put it all together to create a few Harolds of our own. Are you an Advanced Zen student who is curious about this Harold thing? This class is for you! Did you take Scott's first "Hello, Harold" class, and you'd like to get more reps and polish your moves? Well, this class is for you too! We'll move a bit faster than "Hello, Harold" to get this form on its feet and learn by doing. More stuff: The Harold is the granddaddy of all improvisation structures. It's the ballet of improv - the form upon which almost all other forms are based and the most widely performed longform structure of all time. Born in 1967, the Harold is largely credited with creating longform improvisation as we know it today. Yep, it's pretty awesome. This Advanced Zen of Improv class introduces you to the basic elements of The Harold: Openings, Games, Three Beats of Scenes. Plus, we dive into the skills upon which the concept of Harold sits, such as recognizing and playing the patterns, establishing groupmind, and the beauty of controlled chaos. Then we put it all together to create a few Harolds of our own! Please note: In order to qualify for this class, you need to have taken at least one other Advanced Zen of Improv class or the equivalent at another improv school. It is suggested that you read "Truth in Comedy" by Charna Halpern, Del Close, and Kim "Howard" Johnson before the first class. About your teacher: Scott Braidman has been learning, teaching, and performing improvisation for 13 years. He has studied and performed the Harold at The iO Theater in Chicago, The UCB Theater in New York, and ImprovBoston. He's currently living right here in the Happy Valley, performing with The Majesters and The Happier Valley Comedy Show.
