As a part of her MetroWest Kids First initiative, on the evening of January 9, 2018, Senator Spilka cordially invites you to hear from the Rennie Center about the Excellence through Social Emotional Learning (exSEL) at Warren Conference Center in Ashland, MA. The Excellence through Social-Emotional Learning (exSEL) Network will bring districts across MA together to design and implement policies and practices that promote SEL. Districts chosen to participate in the network will have access to expert facilitators and trainers, a peer network focused on SEL, and the latest research on a variety of tools, practices, and interventions that support students’ social-emotional development. To begin their work, districts will focus on making growth mindset—the belief that intelligence can be developed—a key part of school culture. Next, districts will identify and prioritize a specific set of additional SEL goals to strengthen educator capacity and support their unique student population. The exSEL Network will help district teams meet these goals through strategies aligned with best practices and a common set of skills and competencies. The project is led by the exSEL Coalition, whose members include the MA Association of School Committees, MA Association of School Superintendents, MA Organization of Educational Collaboratives, and MA School Administrators Association. The exSEL Coalition’s non-profit partners—the Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy, Transforming Education, and Teachers 21—provide expertise, support, and training for the network.
