Teens and adults 55 or older can join us on Mondays in March through June for our intergenerational community quilting project. Participants will learn and use techniques like sewing, appliqué, fabric painting, and embroidery in order to create a quilt square. Teens will also try their hand at e-textiles and soft circuits. All completed squares will be combined into a quilt for display right here in the Mattapan Branch. Light refreshments will be served. Meetings are on Monday afternoons from 3:30-5:30pm at the Mattapan Branch of the Boston Public Library. No meetings on 3/28, 4/18, and 5/30. Closing Celebration: Monday, June 27, 4p.m.
Special for ArtWeek, we will be exploring the ways quilting can promote social change and social justice, viewing examples from around the world and trying our hand at incorporating techniques, meanings, and movements that personally resonate into our own quilt squares. We will look at quilts tackling subjects like violence, racial injustice, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, and HIV/AIDS. All materials will be supplied and participation is free to all.
