IF ONLY- substance abuse resource presentation
The Uxbridge and Northbridge Community Coalitions, are pleased to invite you to a free evening screening of the short film "If Only." Created by James Wahlberg, the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and Millennium Health, in conjunction with the Recovery Centers of America, the film is intended for teens, parents and adults to increase awareness about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. Mr. Wahlberg will be here to discuss the creation of the film and introduce a community member who has been directly impacted by addiction. It will be shown at the Uxbridge High School Auditorium on Wednesday, October 5th at 7pm. This film will also be shown during the day to Uxbridge High school students. There will be a short presentation of local resources and information tables in the lobby. Clinicians from Community Impact will be on site to confidentially speak with folks needing immediate assistance. The Blackstone Valley, along with communities across the nation, has been dramatically impacted by the opiod epidemic. The Uxbridge and Northbridge Coalitions bring together local service agencies, faith groups, schools, families and youth, to build a safe, healthier community for all. We look at risk factors and work in conjunction with our communities to provide positive opportunities for youth and families in the Blackstone Valley. The more we join together to support one another and share resources, the more we can work to combat this crisis. Early intervention and educating yourself to potential dangers your loved one may be exposed to is crucial.  Before or after the film, please walk through The “Hidden in Plain Sight” display. This display, sponsored by District Attorney Joe Early, is a replica of a typical teenagers bedroom with drug and alcohol paraphernalia hidden. Participants walk through the room trying to discover items that could be drug related.  We hope you can join us at this important event, and hope you will join us in working together to address this epidemic. Please register at Eventbrite for this evening. Tickets are not necessarily required, but we need to accommodate for seating and resource material. For more information about the movie please see www.ifonlymovie.org. For more information about the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, visit www.markwahlbergyouthfoundation.co. For more information about the Uxbridge or Northbridge Coalitions, or ways you can help, please contact Alison CIccone Dwyer at adwyer@uxbridge.k12.ma.us.
