Newburyport is on of the smallest cities in the state of Massachusetts, but it is certainly one of the most beautiful oceanside community!

The city has a strong tourist industry including a favorite destination for art lovers. Here you will find a most charming and large downtown area full of art galleries, specialty shops, historic B&B's, and terrific restaurants.

Newburyport is home to many large and gracious Federalist homes that were built by fortunes acquired by whaling and clipper ship owners living during the 19th century. Newburyport is very proud of its history and justifiably so, Newburyport staged the first tea party in opposition to England's tax on tea and it was well before the more famous one in Boston Mass. Newburyport is also proud to be the birth place of the United States Coast Guard since the first ship commissioned for the Coast guard was built here and named the frigate Massachusetts.

In the early 1960's, Newburyport used state and federal funds to launch a massive redevelopment scheme to reclaim its historic neighborhoods made of granite, cobblestones and to update their utilities such as water and sewer. At the same time in order to prepare for a profitable present and future, Newburyport built an industrial park which now houses many diversified small industries.

Many residents commute daily to Boston via Route 95 and on the commuter rail. Residents are proud of the fact that many families have lived in the city for generations, but they are just as proud of the fact that the city welcomes newcomers and the new ideas they bring. So come to Newburyport and experience the history, beauty and hospitality!
