Storytime with Goats!

Cuddle with our two French Alpine goats, Daisy & Aster!  We'll sit on bales of hay with our goat friends for a morning story followed by goat brushing, feeding and snacks in the lodge! Every Tuesday morning until June.  Recommended for ages 3-5. Please email acaluori@thetrustees.org to register.

A monthly summer hiking club for teens ages 13-16 at Notchview! We'll meet at the Budd Visitor Center to go out and hike Notchview’s trails. After our hike, we’ll head into the lodge for a snack and work on a stewardship service project along the trails at Notchview.

LOCATION:Notchview Ski Lodge, 83 Old Route 9, Windsor, MA 01226 **Note** GPS may need to use the following address/coordinates: 2241 Berkshire Trail Dalton, MA 01226( 42.504909, -73.037470)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A beautifully groomed 1.9 mile (approximate) perimeter loop trail that winds around Notchview in Windsor, MA. You will pass the aid station each lap and there will be access to bathrooms and running water. Additionally, there will be an area to set up personal aid stations as needed. Slight .2 mile incline at the start of each lap, followed by rolling 1 mile alternating single track and double. It follows a xc ski perimiter loop, and grass could be somewhat long in the field, though generally is groomed well!

COST/AID STATION: $30 registration fee for all events. Every participant is required to bring something for the aid station to share - vegan friendly snacks preferred. We will provide a 5 gallon container of water to refill bottles and gatorade powder. Maybe some electrolytes. Anything else, plan to bring yourself! We will use a table by the course for aid station drop off. 

TIMING: We will start together at 7pm. If you show up late, you will be on your own, but wait a few minutes and you'll see one of us. Timing is pretty laid back. We will have a spreadsheet for race morning. Find your name and record each lap as you come through. It is on the honor system. No partial laps count. Events start "x" amount of hours from the cutoff 7pm on 7/7. Just count back from 7pm the number of hours in your event for the proper start. Camping is allowed. Please ask to find a designated area to place a tent if you care to. 10' x 10' is preferred. Nothing larger. You may also elect to nap in your car in the parking lots.

Hike & Picnic through the Seasons

A seasonal hiking series for families & caregivers with kids ages 6-10. 

 Summer Hike: What is Notchview's forest like during the summer?  What is in bloom?  Who do you see?  What are the trees like?  What sounds do you hear?  Find out at our seasonal hike & picnic!

 We'll go exploring the woods, look for wildlife, and learn about the plants and trees that call Notchview home.  Afterwards, we'll return to the lodge to make and draw in our nature journals and share what we learned and experienced.  Each hike ends with a woodland-inspired story and light snack of juice and cookies. Please bring a picnic lunch to enjoy with the group or order one through Notchview from our local general store for an additional $15. Please register at least 2 days in advance.

Herbal Remedies Series: Summer

Each season, join community herbalist & farmer, Cathy Keough, to learn how to make simple home remedies and concotions from local plants that grow in your backyard! 

In this class, we will discuss traditional culinary and medicinal uses of plants that can be found growing in Western MA. While on a hike at Notchview, we will talk about herb identification, history of herbal use, and how these plants support human health. Bring shoes and gear for light hiking, as the class will be primarily held outdoors. 

Herbal tea and recipes will be provided at the end of the class!

 

About Instructor:  Cathy Keough is a community herbalist, farmer & gardener, and life long lover of the outdoors.  She studied plants and the way they engage with humans and support health while at the Vermont Center of Integrative Herbalism in Montpelier, VT and at Herb Pharm in Williams, Oregon.  She is devoted to bringing people into deeper connection with plants in order to nourish the wellbeing of both humans and the natural world.
