Kids Yoga Mighty Warriors Camp: Love Rocks (Recommended ages 5-12)
Join us this summer for kid’s yoga camp sessions. Each two-day camp is a different theme reflecting peace, love, gratitude and kindness. Recommended for ages 5-12. Each two-day session will run for two hours which includes, yoga with peaceful pebbles, stories with morals, positive affirmations, mindfulness journey's in our barefoot, belly laughter breath work, and meditation. Each child will create a beautiful keepsake to take home during each session! Please send each child with a yoga mat, water and a healthy snack (also available in the first floor café). This two-day camp runs on July 17th and July 18th 10am-12pm. ABOUT DIANE:Diane is a yoga enthusiast who is certified to teach both adults and children. Her passion is to encourage children and young adults to breathe peace, love and acceptance into their hearts, all the while practicing and experiencing the wonderful benefits yoga has for their bodies and souls. Through stories and "Peaceful Pebbles" she will guide kids on an amazing yoga journey that they will take with them for life. Adult Beginner Ukulele II
Are you ready to move ahead with your ukulele? Refine what you learned in our beginner class, strengthen your existing skills and learn new ones with our 7-week Beginner UKE II class! Classes will be held in our usual Tuesday evening slot - 7:00-8:30 - on the following dates: 7/17 7/24 7/31 NO CLASS 8/7 8/14 NO CLASS 8/21 8/28 9/4 9/11 In this new class, we'll review and reinforce chords and strumming patterns that you've already learned, and add new skills, such as:* Additional chords and strum techniques* How to add picked segments to songs you already know how to strum* Blues chords and 12-bar blues* Fingerpicking basics* How to hammer on and off, and other embellishments ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:Lisa Cohen has always known that music moves the deepest parts of her soul. A lifelong "casual" vocalist with experience performing with a variety of local musicians, more recently including The Shed Inspectors and The Splitting Headaches, Lisa explored piano and guitar before realizing the Ukelele as the best tool to support her ongoing personal musical journey. She was one of the original members of the Zukes Ukelele Orchestra, performing with the Wellington Ukelele Orchestra at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford in 2015, participates with the Massapoag Uke Strummers in Sharon, the Featherstone Uke Jam on Martha's Vineyard, and many porch and backyard jam sessions across New England. Lisa believes the ukulele is the perfect instrument for those that may have previously believed themselves to be "non-musical". She and Cindy Miller are founders and co-directors of the Unlikely Strummers, and together they have taught several beginner ukulele classes at the bookstore and for community education programs. Lisa is very excited to share the joy of ukulele with new strummers at An Unlikely Story.Cindy Miller has had a lifelong relationship with music. After many years of formal training on flute, guitar, and piano, the ukulele is her most recent instrumental adventure. She is a member of the Zukes Ukulele Orchestra, based at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford, and has also played with The Mighty Uketones and the Massapoag Strummers. Cindy has performed at the Cape Cod Ukulele Festival, the Wamsutta Club's "Not Your Average Christmas," New Bedford's "AHA!" (Art, History, Architecture) Nights, the New Bedford Portuguese Festival, the welcoming ceremony for the crew of the Hawaiian voyaging canoe Holukea, Brockton's Fuller Craft Museum, and also as game-day entertainment for the Brockton Rox baseball team, as well as at coffeehouses, open mic nights, and community events in the area. She and Lisa Cohen are founders and co-directors of the Unlikely Strummers, and she as taught beginner ukulele classes for both adults and children at the bookstore and for community education programs. Kripalu Yoga 1-Week Drop In Card
Start the day off right with Kripalu Yoga (the yoga of compassion) which is designed to develop a greater sense of non-judgmental self awareness. The focus is on the health and well-being of your body, for your mind and for your spirit. This class will begin with warm-up movements and breath awareness to prepare you for yoga postures. The heart of the class is a sequence of postures that stretch, strengthen and balance your body. Each class ends with deep relaxation and meditation. All levels are welcome. By offering a gradient approach to the practice, new students can comfortably and safely practice side-by-side with seasoned practitioners. Students should wear loose fitting clothing and bring a yoga mat, beach towel or small blanket, and bottled water. Additional yoga props including yoga straps, blocks, and tennis balls will be available for use. There is the option to register for a drop-in class for $18.00 or a 8-class card at a discounted rate. If you are registering for all 8 weeks of yoga, the class dates will be as follows and tickets must be purchased in advance of the first class. The 8-week class card can only be used for this session of Kripalu Yoga and will not be valid for any other session.  Each class runs from 9:30am-10:45am. The class dates for this session are: 7/19 7/26 8/2 8/9 NO CLASS 8/16 8/23 8/30 9/6 9/13 ABOUT LISA: Lisa Cohen, RYT-500, is an Ayurvedic Health Counselor in training and Ayurvedic Yoga Teacher certified at both the 200 and 500 hour level by the Kripalu School of Yoga and Ayurveda in Stockbridge, MA. Lisa will complete the final requirements of her Ayurvedic Yoga and Health Counselor training in August 2016. Lisa believes yoga is for EVERY BODY and has a special interest in working with diverse populations and people who may not think of themselves as "traditional" yoga practitioners. Lisa is also CPR/AED Certified through the American Heart Association. She currently offers Ayurvedic Health Workshops and Kripalu Yoga Programs throughout Southeastern, MA. If you want to introduce a song to the group, please bring 8-10 extra copies for sharing or a flashdrive with a digital copy, and we'll project your music on the "big screen." How well do you remember the 90's? Patrick Kinney hosts 90's trivia on the Second Story. Dinner and snacks will be available along with beer and wine (21+). Teams of all sizes are welcome but only teams of five or less are prize eligible. Be sure to wear your velour tracksuits or dress up as your favorite 90's character. It’s going to be off the heasy!
