The Unsung Heroine Behind the New Deal: Part two of a historical portrayal of Frances Perkins by Janet Parnes. Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 PM. Flyer features a photograph of Janet Parnes dressed in costume as Frances Perkins. She sands with one hand on her hip, and the other holding the earpiece of a rotary telephone to her ear. Gain insights into some of the many reasons Frances Perkins is referred to as one of the most influential women of the first half of the 20th century. Janet Parnes has been delighting audiences with her portrayals of underappreciated American women (and events) for over 15 years. She has performed at the Massachusetts State House, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum, the Longfellow’s Wayside Inn, and numerous other libraries, senior centers, schools, and museums. This program is intended for adults. The Golden Age of Hollywood

Tuesday, April 23, at 6:00 PM

This event has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

The Golden Age of Hollywood, a presentation for adults by Spirits of Fashion. Tuesday, April 23, at 6:00 PM. Join us as we travel through these fascinating decades and enjoy a glimpse into the glamour of that golden age. Fashion on the silver screen during the ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s was not only glamorous and influential, but also was enjoyed as an “escape” from the problems of each decade. The 1950s movies continued to show elegant fashions that were inspiring to the audiences of that period, but the advent of television caused fashion influence to be split between the silver screen and the smaller TV in America’s homes. (spiritsoffashion.com) Flyer includes a black and white photograph Marlene Dietrich, one of the most popular film and music stars of the 1930s and 1940s. The actress is leaning against the banister of a grand staircase and looking off camera with a smile. She wears a long dress cinched at the waist with a belt, a long sleeve jacket with fur around her upper arm, and a drapey hat covering her hair. Registration is required. Visit our Events Page! Funded by the Friends of the Blackstone Public Library.
