About Agawam, MA
The city of Agawam was founded in 1855 as a town and is located in the Hampden county area. The name Agawam which is an Indian term meaning crooked river was given to the community for its location on the Connecticut River which separates Agawam from Springfield.

Although a city government, the community wishes to be known as The Town of Agawam which has retained its sense of being a small town of tradition does offer many recreational opportunities at the numerous amounts of State Parks and neighboring golf courses.

Agawam is the home of Six Flags New England (formerly Riverside Amusement Park) which included the NASCAR racing track riverside speedway.
