Free Haircuts Give Students Boost Ahead of MCAS Testing Week

The Worcester Public Schools (WPS) is excited to announce that ParentSquare is now available to all families and staff! ParentSquare is the district’s new two-way communications platform that provides instant translations in 100+ languages.
Denmark Educators Visit WPS to Learn About Artificial Intelligence in Teaching
On Friday, April 12, the Worcester Public Schools (WPS) hosted a delegation of 30 principals and assistant principals from schools in Denmark to showcase how WPS is integrating artificial intelligence into teaching and learning practices in grades K-12. The event was held at Worcester Technical High School.

Multicultural Night at Forest Grove!
Forest Grove Middle School recently celebrated Multicultural Night with students and their families.
This annual event, spearheaded by World Language teachers David Romero, Michelle Rivas, Marisol Ramsay and Juan Lopez, is a celebration of the rich diversity found throughout the Forest Grove community.
This year’s event began with a welcome from Principal Greg Tremba, and a bilingual poetry reading by 2020-2022 Worcester Poet Laureate Mr. Juan Matos.
Following the welcome, the auditorium, filled with students and their families, were treated to performances by students as well as local organizations Monano and the Orphanage Movement.
The audience participated in a drumming session led by Monano and took in a break dancing performance from Orphanage Movement and student performances highlighting music and dance from a multitude of countries.

Haircuts for MCAS at the Vernon Hill School 💈
Earlier this week, local barbers, nail technicians and hair braiders visited the Vernon Hill School for a confidence building initiative ahead of MCAS testing this week.
Michelangelo’s Barbershop and Nails, a locally-owned business with strong Worcester roots, sent six barbers, two nail technicians and two hair braiders to the school to offer free services, including haircuts, manicures and braiding, to fifth and sixth graders at the school in an effort to build confidence.
“Feeling good leads to doing good,” said Vernon Hill Principal Craig Dottin. “When we cultivate positive emotions within ourselves, we naturally extend that positivity to others through our actions and interactions. Report cards can now be accessed electronically through ParentSquare, our two-way communication platform for WPS families and staff!
By delivering report cards electronically, we can streamline communication and ensure that you receive timely access to your child's academic progress.

- Report cards will be sent directly to your ParentSquare account.
- You will receive a notification once the report cards are available for viewing.

between all these apps parent portal, bus app, class dojo, remind can we just have ONE GENERAL APP !

Mystery Readers at Heard Street School 📚
Before April vacation, Heard Street welcomed members of the community to the school to read to students for Mystery Reader’s Day! The students not only had special guests read to them but were also able to learn about our community partners' jobs.
Mystery readers included Mayor Joseph Petty, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early, Worcester Fire Chief Martin Dyer, Worcester City Manager Eric Batista, Worcester Police Officer and former Heard Street student Officer Tortora, Diplomat to Nigeria Mary Beth Leonard, student-athletes from WPI and Holy Cross, and Arthur F. Worcester Unites Concert 🎻🎷🎺
Worcester Unites recently celebrated another music-filled year with a concert at Burncoat Middle School.
This marked the ninth year of Worcester Unites, an after-school music program offered to all WPS instrumentalists from grade four through high school.
Worcester Unites allows students to further their musical education and skills while also meeting friends from across the school district and performing as part of an ensemble.
High school aged students help coach after their ninth grade year, and are encouraged and supported through the program to pursue careers as a music teacher themselves.
